MY STORY SO FAR
Hello! I am Manveer, A documentary filmmaker based in vancouver BC
most videographers start with motion. i started with stillness. i've been a photographer since i was 11, and five years ago i dabbled into video, chasing what a photo alone couldn't hold: the motion, the sound, the audio of a real moment happening. that background shapes everything i shoot. i see frames first, composition first, and the action follows.
i got into weddings almost by accident. a couple reached out looking for a last-minute videographer [a day before], and i had this idea i wanted to try. i said yes, ran with it, and it turned out to be one of the most fun days i'd ever filmed. i knew right away this was what i wanted to keep doing. i love talking to people, meeting strangers, being around a party and weddings put all of that in one room.
but when i looked around at other wedding films, something felt off. most of them had no real audio from the day. they were music videos dressed up as films, slow, staged, performing a version of the day rather than showing what actually happened. i didn't want to make those. i wanted something that still felt romantic, but was built on story, not performance.
so that's how i film now. i'm looking for the moments people don't know they're being watched in. the real laugh, tears & smiles. i still think like a photographer first, always looking for the frame, the composition, before i think about the action inside it. i shoot documentary style, with digita l+ super 8 cameras, a look that leans towards classic movies and a little vintage. i use real audio from the day, voiceovers, interview snippets, the actual sound of the room and my films are story-driven one.
